What a great discussion this was facilitated by Women in the Food Industry’s Mecca Ibrahim, celebrating chef Sally Abe’s memoir titled A Woman’s Place is in the Kitchen.
More than anything else, members of the panel (which included Mursal Saiq, Amanda Ross and Antonia Lloyd) and some women in the audience shared how hard it was for them to find and own their place when working in professional kitchens.
To go through all of this, and still produce great food, drink, hospitality or content for food television, day in, day out!
It's one thing to celebrate the hard-fought achievements of women in Hospitality, but such conversations about how difficult our journeys can be are ever so important. And I hope the industry is taking note of this.
