Recently I read this article that laid out the seven different types of rest we have to accommodate into our lives: physical, mental, emotional, social, sensory, creative and spiritual.
To me it feels like a very Western idea – to intellectualise something as fluid as rest. This is useful information, but again, it reduces rest to another checklist of things to be done. If you work in a demanding profession like my clients in Hospitality, the capacity to enjoy any rest would be welcome.
What might be more helpful is to be tuned in to your need for rest. That's what we're missing so badly these days.
If you can do that, my belief is that you are halfway there – all that remains is to honour that need in whatever way you can, as soon as you can. It does not have to be more complicated than that!
