What really causes a lack of confidence?

They say that a lack of confidence usually results from fear of the unknown.

Your fear tends to be greatest in situations where you have no way of predicting the possible outcomes: what demand your new job might make of you (and how others perceive your ability to handle them), what questions you might get asked by the audience during a pitch or presentation, how likely you are to finally secure the promotion you so badly want.

Underneath that lack of confidence lies a sense of powerlessness in influencing the outcome, much less, your ability to handle the result of a negative outcome.

Which, when you think about it, is not unexpected when working in a majority male industry without access to power.

It naturally follows that shoring up your personal power will give you a stronger foundation and more emotional resilience to handle uncertain situations without going into a downward spiral.

Negative outcomes then appear less daunting and have less power to destabilise you.

And most importantly, your mental energy is freed up to make the most of your skills and talents.

In 2025 I created the Leadership Lab group coaching programme to empower young, aspiring leaders who have started their careers at a time of great uncertainty in the world of work.

My motive was not just to support them through their current challenges and map out strategies to achieve their goals, but to also impart the knowledge and acumen to strengthen their personal power in the face of the volatility that will encounter as future leaders.

For them, I want it to be an affordable way of having a coach in their back pocket when the Imposter or the Perfect One made them stop believing in themselves and their brilliance and just how valuable their contribution was to their teams.

I am opening enrolment for Leadership Lab again this month (after having to postpone it due to a personal emergency in February).

This programme is for young women under the age of 33 who are ready to take their first steps into leadership.

If you are interested to join Cohort 2, I invite you to check out the details before booking a call with me: https://www.ishoorajamohan.com/leadership-lab

If you are interested in referring Leadership Lab to someone in your network who will be a good fit, you might want to join the Referral Partner Programme which rewards you for your kind recommendation when a referee signs up: https://tinyurl.com/ll-referral-partner-programme

Just one final note from me: enrolment closes on May 1st and there are a maximum of 6 spots available.

PS: Don’t forget, if you need more urgent support, i.e., you have an appraisal coming up, I invite you to book an Appraisal Strategy Session while the special offer lasts until the end of April.
