Those of us who identify as recovering people pleasers (they say that using the word ‘recovering’ is more empowering) are hardly free people.
We are constantly leaking energy, which gets trapped in the places and situations where we give our power away.
The people and systems that we frequently say ‘yes’ to get used to our easy co-operation, keeping us further locked in to those patterns.
Which makes it harder, but not impossible to extricate ourselves from those traps - and my masterclass next week on Conquering People Pleasing teaches you strategies to do that gently, safely and in a way that aligns with your nervous system.
But it takes work.
And it is a very worthwhile exercise to take on, and I can promise you that from the clients I have helped with this issue.
Here are some of the rewards you can expect from conquering people pleasing:
It releases you from rejection anxiety or conflict aversion: You feel lighter when you are not walking on eggshells around others, overthinking the he-said she-said scripts in your mind, or taking responsibility for keeping the peace (which is my own go-to coping mechanism as someone who loves harmony)
It raises your self-esteem and confidence from being more authentic: When you respect yourself, others reflect that back to you and you get less of the doormat treatment or being taken for granted
It increases your chances of career progression and your earning potential: Your career will most likely be capped when you cannot demonstrate a willingness to advocate for or argue for your company’s objectives as a leader
Recovering from people pleasing will make an enormous difference to your career, your relationships and your wellbeing.
My masterclass next week will be a safe space for us to explore how we can shed our people pleaser and grow a thicker skin, so that we can show up more authentically and true to ourselves.
That’s the version of us that the world is waiting to discover and own.
