Doing too much dilutes your credibility

How does doing too much cost you your professional reputation, rather than make you be seen as the person who can hold it all?

I see it time and time again: the temptation faced by women working in majority male industries to overgive, overdeliver, prove their worth.

Perhaps you want to display equal competence to male colleagues or other women whom you fear have greater access to opportunities than you. Sometimes the scarcity of opportunities to be visible (especially if you are a woman of colour) forces you to say yes to everything. Or there might be other needs that you are looking to fill.

It really pays to consider how doing too much really reflects on you, your leadership, and your personal brand in the long run.

Do you notice yourself in the patterns I have described here?

Could it be time to shape your visibility by being strategic about the things you say yes to, and also learning how to leverage your precious time, energy and attention?

(PS:  If you are a senior woman leader, I invite you to join my Director's Cut October Roundtable on Tuesday 27th October where we discuss this very topic on establishing your credibility strategically.
